Dear Antiquarians,
I've recently inherited this piece from my late grandmother in LA.
It's provenace is a mystery...Japan?China?
It's in good condition except for a little minor crackling of the paint in a couple spots.
The pics don't really do it justice,it's looks nicer in real life.
I beleive the bttm drawers are inlaid with cedar.
If anyone has insights to it's origin, age & value...we would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,James

Can you take a close up of those dovetails ?? The pics are too far away to see anything important !! Close pic of the back too please !! Its like trying to see a bird from a mile away !!
-
The dust cover indicates it's Machine made. Only The English & better grade furniture included them.
-
Looks like the 40`s rendition of the lacquered secretaire !!
Yes, more chinoiserie secretaire than armoire.
Drawers don't look particularly old but could be deceptive.
-
I used the word Anglo Japanese, Rather then Chinoiserie. Because it's seems people under stand it better.

Def an Ebonized Writing Desk Bureau Secretary type thing.
