Hi all! New here...and right off the bat I'm going to bug you with something. ;)
The down and dirty...I am trying to find the attached painting somewhere...anywher e. If I knew who painted it, that would help me find it, but bottom line is I want to find it. Can anyone help or have you ever seen it anywhere?
Now the long story, if anyone is interested. I had this painting in my bedroom as a child. I have no idea where it ended up when my parents downsized to a smaller home after the kids moved out. Thinking about it over the past several years, I would Google it from time to time to see if I could find it anywhere, and one day I got a hit! That's the image I've attached.
The image was on the web site of an artist/collector and he had it for sale! So I contacted him via email, but he said he had recently relocated and everything was stored away in boxes and he didn't know if he could find it but he would look. Weeks later I contacted him again...offered him even more for it if he would try to find it. He looked but could not find it. :(
The fact that I cannot come up with a hit on the internet ANYWHERE makes me almost convinced that I owned the only one there ever was and now this man has it in his storeroom! Kidding...sort of. The frame is not the same as mine. But I can't believe it's not anywhere else to be found. Every time I'm in an antique store/mall I search the walls for it and ask the workers if they've ever seen it. No luck.
So I'm hoping someone here can help. Thank you! :)

Rest assured you did not own the only one !! We have had this up for question before !! I remember the pink sash but cannot remember who posted it !! As well as I can remember this is an English print !! Ipcress will likely be able to tell you about it !!
-
Looks like it could be a George Romney painting. You might look through his paintings.
-
Thanks for the suggestions! I've checked out Romney's work and haven't seen anything similar to this one.
As for the question being posed before, it quite possibly might have been me! :) I've posted the question on a few forums before, so I don't know. It's just hard to believe I can't come up with it on any searches using various descriptions. The one hit I got (the gentleman who now can't find the painting)...he has removed it from his website so it doesn't appear in searches anymore now.
I'm hoping someone who sees this might still be able to help. Thanks! :)

No, that wouldn't have been me. So that's good news that I'm not alone in my quest! Sure would like to know if he had any luck finding it.

Girl with a Kitten was first painted in 1745. so we have a lot Artist's out there redesigning the original. none the less it could still have some value.

Thanks for the info! Not really interested in a value tho...just want to find a copy to buy or at least get some more information about it. Do you have any more information or a link to a site? Searching that title still yields me no results. :(

You might want to look at the pictures of Thomas Gainsborough's "Blue Boy" and "Pinky". Believe that yours is a variation of these famous ones!

Thanks! We've gone down that route before, but a search of his works showed no match to this one. In fact, the gentleman who had the painting on his website had listed it as being a Gainsborough, but he was guessing.

Correction Girl with a cat. I most likely could have tracked it down for you. when I had my fourth heart attack, I gave my personal library, to the local library. for a book sale. 30 years of antique info gone.

I haven't looked, but you might possibly find a lead regarding the artist here:

PS: It was Thomas Lawrence that painted "Pinky".
-
Funny you should mention that. I saw "Pinky" at the antique mall yesterday and looked up Lawrence because of the similarity. :) Unfortunately, no luck.
No luck searching "Girl With a Cat" either, unfortunately.
I will try the site with the cat art next.
I've even uploaded an image of the painting to Google's "search by image" and gotten no results.
Perhaps it was just a cheap, dime store decoration and there is no record of it anywhere?

Don`t think so,, and its not a re-make !! Its out there somewhere !!
-
I am bumping this up !! Hopefully someone will know the name !!

Exactly my problem! I simply can't believe it's so unique that it won't come up in any search at all online anywhere. Now you know why I was so desperate to get it from the one person who actually had it/one!
-
Just don`t lose his email address !!
-
Can't depend on the internet, Any appraiser will tell you that.

Happy to report that I have FOUND and BOUGHT this painting! I still have no idea about the title or artist, but I found it for sale on Etsy of all places and bought it today. :D
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this! I very much appreciate it!
-
No kidding ?? I am so glad you got one !! Now if you ever find out the title and the artist,,let me know !!

I will! I'm hoping there is something identifiable on this one. It seems to be a pretty old one, including the frame and backing, but the frame isn't like the one mine was in (or the other one I saw online). The seller was so happy to hear my story and that she could help me out!
