Title: Vintage Metal MiniatureDollhouse Dishes Silver Plate?
Post by: JeanneCurt on April 07, 2014, 05:42:35 PM
Hi,
I bought this set of miniature dollhouse metal dishes.  There are lots more than I have pictures but took a sampling of what I got.  I don't know if they are old or new.  They are quite detailed.  There is a punch bowl with cups that hand around the edge.  Candlesticks  and a candelabra.  There are about 40 pieces.

They were quite dark and I have tried cleaning them.  The photo of the two plates together is one that I have cleaned with silver polish on the right and the other is just washed.  They seem heavy for their size.  These plates measure 7/8" in diameter.

Do other metals clean up like silver or silver plate?

Thanks for any help.

Did these clean up like silverplate does?

There are actually pieces for dolls that are silver!  Do these have any markings on them at all?

How many pieces?

I don't really know how to tell the difference between silver and silver plate either in looks or how it cleans up.  It seems to clean quite easily.

There are 46 pieces and 3 separate covers.

I don't see any marks on them!

There is a punch bowl with 4 cups that hang on the outside and a twisted handle ladle.  Those cups measure 1/4" in diameter.  It is a very small set overall.

I've had children's play sets before china & silver plate & a beautiful sterling set on a tray, but never some of the pieces in your collection.   Looks like silver plate to me, if there are no marks, I doubt they are sterling.  In the photos some of them almost look like they could be pewter.  Which would buff up nicely.

One mistake people make is just trying to clean silver with polish before actually getting all the oils off first.  Wash the pieces in hot soapy water & if they are still not coming clean, use a bit of TSP, but rinse well after.
Beautiful.... can't help you with value, I would have to do lots of research as I haven't had anything like this for years.  GG

Researching...but you have a prize on your hands to have such a large set!  Never seen one this large!

How much did you pay?
