Title: Brass wall plaques
Post by: Hisforkiddo on April 23, 2014, 01:02:35 PM
I was just wondering if anyone here knew the value of these, if they have any at all. I inherited them after my grandmother passed away. They are brass, but have no markings anywhere on them. TIA to anyone who knows anything about these!

I would like to see the back. Are they cast and heavy or stamped?

This is the back of one of one of them. The back looks the same on the other. They are casted and weigh about two or three pounds each. About 7 1/2 inches in diameter. No stamps or markings anywhere!

They appear to have Roman features like in some Italian Baroque Medallions I have seen except much larger. I am not close to being an expert. That's just an observation. They also look like gilded bronze from here. Very nice and fascinating. I hope you get a good ID on them so I can learn too. Someone with more knowledge in this area will come along.

Possibly flue covers ??  Some were pretty ornate !! Size is odd for a decorative piece to hang on the wall !! About right for a flue !! Although some were larger or smaller,, this is average !!

I never would have thought of that Mart. They are very well executed pieces. I added to my last post

Thanks for the answers! My grandmother passed before I could ask what they were or where they came from. They were always just hanging on her wall. Thanks for the research starting point. Hopefully someone else comes along with some more history!

Mart beat me to it!  Looks like an antique flue cover!  Over time they have become wonderful art pieces for stands and some people have done like these people have and made a hanger!
