Hello all. I hope everyone is doing well
I had some back problems and was down for a while. Has some surgery that I hope stays put.
But enough of that, I was wondering about this wonderful piece of old molded glass I have.
It's opalescence depending on where you hold it otherwise it just looks like milk glass with clear edges.
Not a big deal. I just appreciate what our ancestors made a long time ago and figure when we take a look see, we give them a shout out for the beautiful things they made back then.
Its about 1.5" high
2.5" across the top
1.5" across the bottom
weighs 167 grams
its is slightly off kilter ans has some marks deep into the glass

Sorry you had to have surgery !! Hope it was successful !! We have had many new members since you were here last !!
As to your item,, It looks like it was a decorative piece to hold curtains open !! Would have a long screw with a decorative front that went into the wall,,curtains or drapery would be held back with a sash/tie back that would go around your piece !! Pretty sure on that but if you would post to the Questions forum,, they can correct me if I am wrong !!

Seems a bit small for curtain tiebacks, but could be. I have seen some bonnet dressers with large knobs like these, but at any rate it's missing it's hardware. If you wanted to use it for a cupboard door it would probably take the new style door bolts. Nice opalescent glass. GG

I have the mate to it. It is 19th century, possibly Sandwich glass. I agree with everything GG27 says. I found mine at a porch sale in Ocean Grove NJ at a Victorian home. The owner found it in the house when they were renovating. From what I remember mine is exactly the same. Unfortunately mine is in storage right now so I can't check it.

She said 2.5 inches across the top !! That's a bit large for a furniture pull !!

Icedgold10, made me laugh on that one. So true and having to argue with a Texas woman about it none the less!
Looks like a Victorian tie back to me! They got to be really big. Still that way in many mansions. Often spend lots more money on that than the draperies.

Most tiebacks that I have sold have been in the 3 1/2" to 4" size, 2 1/2" is pretty small for tiebacks, they hold back large velvet or woven drapes. Many large bonnet chests have quite large single knobs on the top drawers, whether they are from Texas or not! ;D GG

Empire style pulls were often large pressed glass of 2 1/2 inches. Many were opalescent and made by the Sandwich Glass factory. Like I said, I have the same one and I research everything I find and never quit until I find it. If you search Empire Glass Drawer Pulls on Google Images and scroll down you will see the same one laying on a ruler. Unfortunately it is no longer on the page of eBay but the description is there if you click on the image.

The link I gave said they were used for both pulls and tie backs !! The face/front of this one made me think tie back because of the indenting !! I have seen some that had a button size brass plate that fit into that circular slot with a long screw back that went into the wall !! As it is it seems not too pretty with the screw head showing !!
