Title: Antique treenware or perhaps peaseware?

Hi,
I recently bought this lovely pair of wooden jars in a local shop. I've no idea of where they originate from and how old they are. The shape looks European or American to me. The paint however makes them look oriental. They have signs of aging so I don't think they are recent. Does anyone have a clue? Thanks!

Maybe they are from Burma?

thank you very much Mat! That could very well be. I did a quick google search and found similar jars. Probably mines were used as spice jars! Any ideas about age?

No, sorry, I do not know how old they are, but you are right, they show some wear, so they are at least not new.  :)

Nothing on the bottom of the foot ??  Probably mid 1900`s or around then !!  Wooden items used in the kitchen sometimes show more aging than others due to heat, steam and inevitable flying around of oil particles when cooking !!  Wood will take on a sheen which yours has on the unpainted areas !!  Paint will also darken a bit and get a richer tone !!  So your guess could be correct about spices, salt or other condiments !!

Thank you Mart for helping. There is nothing on the bottom of the foot.

But thanks to this forum I'm on the right trail! :) I think it's a Burmese spice jar of some kind.

Older wooden turned items will not be completely round, they will have a slightly oval shape to them as wood shrinks across the grain.  This won't help you know where they are from but whether they have some age to them.  GG
