Title: Old Violin
Post by: Niels on April 28, 2014, 02:57:36 AM
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'll give it a try  ;).

I have this old beaten up violin. Does it have any value? It's not labelled and signed.

No marks near the button at the top of the back ?

Decent violin though. Probably been a good " school " violin for someone. Probably c1890-1900.

Thank you for your comments! No, I've looked everywhere but no signs of markings.

best,

I'm sorry to take this off topic but please explain how you are able to download so many pictures at once

No problem. I use photobucket to host the image. I make sure to crop the photos (1500 pixels width max.) before uploading to photobucket. And then simply copy paste the links ([IMG]) one by one in the post. Hope this helps!

Most don't bother hotlinking, just post the main link. When they do hotlink, the images are usually too large and they see a server error.

Thanks !  ;D

Yes I did! Thanks for asking. No sign of any label or name I'm afraid.

There are specific forums for old violins,, they might be able to shed light on this one !! Perhaps the way it is made will tell the maker !!

Seriously doubt it Mart. The violin experts will be able to give approximate decade and country of origin in this instance but a maker without a label...
They can tell you if one of those with the fairly common Cremona 17** violin label inside actually came from Northern France or something

just a nice, fairly old generic violin.

Violin identification can be a formidable task with all the copies produced over the years.

You are probably right !!  Was just a thought anyway !! With a little resto.. would still be a nice decorators item !!
