Title: Anyone know what these are?

Anyone know what they were used for?  Brass with black lacquer.  Their general shape looks similar to a lamp base, but at the top each has a finial made up of three (acanthus?) leaves.  So, they do not seem to serve any kind of utilitarian purpose.

These are purely decorative objects !! Sitting beside a fireplace or on a mantle !!  Pretty heavy bases aren`t they ??  Most are !!  Designers use similar items when they want to add height to a grouping of objects !~!  At least that's what they appear to be !! Have you checked closely to see if they open up anywhere ?? Don`t think they would but never hurts to check !!
