Title: Japanese Sake Cups?
Post by: Vwdoyle on June 19, 2014, 08:52:29 PM
Hello Everyone,

I picked up these really cool cups but can't seem to find anything about them.  They are about 3" in diameter and sit about 2" from the base to rim.  The woman I bought them from at an estate sale said they were in her family for years.  Any info would be great.

Thank you!

Hi, are there any marks on the bottom of the cups? The faces shown on the inside are Hyottoko and Okame, you can find information on them on the internet (Here are some depictions of them with explanations of the subject: http://darumadollmuseum.blogspot.gr/2005/12/otafuku-daruma.html ). Both figures are bringing luck. I think the writing on the outside could mean "Ofuku", which is another name for Okame, but I am not 100 % sure about that. Maybe someone other can help with the kanji...

Thanks Mat!

There are no markings on the bottom of the cup.  I will post a pic later today.

Thanks again for the info!
