Title: hand painted pottery is this old or new cheap or nice?
Post by: joemg311 on July 08, 2014, 02:45:38 PM
Haven't been around in a bit... but figure I would challenge the brain trust here again. This stuff is not something I have but someone in my town posted it on craiglist for sale. All they say is it is hand painted, very valuable of unknown origin and over 60 years old, it has been posted forever with no takers. Only 1 pic that they posted. I know it is not much info to go on, but search your soul and tell me what emotions this set evokes  :D for me it is blahh.

Its similar to Quimper pottery but there were many patterns and several potteries there !!  Is that all they said ??   There was a Dutch pottery that was often mistaken for Quimper but can`t remember the name !!  This does not look like the tin glazed Quimper,, but hard to tell from the pics !!  What are they asking for it ??

It did come across quimper while trying to find out about this stuff. They have a pretty similar style. They are asking $50 for everything.

Another possibility and a more likely one !! Scroll down and look at "French Peasant" !!  I have seen this pattern before but where and when,, can`t remember !!

Thanks for that. We are getting warmer I think :D Only pieces are pictured, they described the piece that is kind of out of view as a candle holder. No response yet from them if there are any markings.

I just now searched "Pennsylvania Dutch coffee carafe set" on Yahoo and the following came up.

Basically the same marking as the "Hand painted" set you linked to.

Nah I think I'm going to pass. I like to buy stuff I wouldn't mind keeping unless it is a steal of a deal and I know I can flip it quickly.
