Title: are these bowls rare?
Post by: andymnfun on July 30, 2014, 06:29:38 PM
Each bowl is painted slightly differently I don't know if they're worth anything though they're painted different in the middle so each one is unique

Agree, pictures are too large, cannot see the bowl but can see your hand pretty good.  :)

Interesting.  I immediately thought of peacock feathers when I saw the design on the outside of the bowl.

Just some really beautiful bowls.  Cheerful and sturdy.

Nice bowls and at least they are different !!  But to determine if they are "rare" as in the collecteble sense,, you would need to know who made them,,and if there is a collectors market for the bowls by this pottery and how many were made in the series !!

With no makers mark the only way to find out more about your bowls is to search. They appear to be Mexican hand made hand painted pottery bowls. Try searching different versions of that and maybe you will get lucky and find a match. They could be Talavera Pottery  but does not look as detailed as that pottery usually is. This is how we find many items that have no marks antique books and hours of searching. good luck let us know if you find a match  :)  will keep an eye out.

your piece is similar to this one. http://www.virtualmex.com/mexico_art/ceramic_crafts.htm
