Title: pottery jar
Post by: sugarcube5419 on October 13, 2014, 02:00:48 PM
pretty bland title but I don't know what else to call  it.  I have tried to figure out the maker signature for months--

does anyone know?

plus a question--=do you think this had a top originally?

The bottom can show the wear, the color of the clay, the glazing technique and other clues. It looks from your picture that it is US made and from the 50s or 60s but wouldn't you want to know more? Hopefully someone will recognize the pattern. It also could be Italian or Portuguese. I cannot feel the weight so any picture would help. Yes I am sure it did have a top

Signature could be an individual artist.  There would have been a top to it for sure.

The initials are usually the decorators mark,, could be "max" !!  I debated on if the first letter was a W or an M !!  This is about the size of an average cookie jar isn`t it !!  I remember some similar ones from the 60`s used as canister sets in graduated sizes and cookie jars !!  Most were Italian imports !!  The art work on this is a pretty commercial type !! Like you can buy at most department stores !!
