My first guess was that it was a vintage toy helmet for kids back then. Then again..I don't know, lol. The badge on front is thin metal. The main helmet material feels like plastic to me. Measures approx. between 10 1/2" & 11" from the very front of the helmet to the very back of it. Anyone able to identify this? the possible worth? Was it actually used for real? Thank you!! ;)

I am betting it is missing a piece of helmet. Most had a black visor section on them. It does appear that there is an open hole under the sheriff bade where one might have attached at one point.
Can you please describe what figures you see on the badge?

Usually a badge will have some type of seal (usually state) in the center to be official.
The helment looks to be fiberglass from the photos and looking at the side picture the badge is on the back.
Kind of has a riot helment look to it and the interior does appear "real" rather than a toy.

I don't know exactly what your helmet is , but it does appear as if it was a helmet 'liner' , as used under a steel helmet (military) ww2 & korean war , by infantry troops .
Possibly (probable) a re-purposed item , IMO .
