give me your thoughts on this I was thinking its a vintage cold cream jar? It has a diamond mark with the number 2 on the bottom
-
Bottom of Jar
-
How big is it ??
-
2 1/2 inches round
-
The 2 means a 2oz jar !! How tall ??
-
2" tall w/top
thanks mart
-
Well, It isn`t cold cream !! Cold cream was rather lavishly used to remove make up !! That jar would not have lasted very long !! I would bet its a cream sachet` jar !! Like a perfume in cream form !! Just a dab would do ya !! Even had that in the 50`s !! Rose and florals were the most used !!
-
makes total sense--appreciated mart
-
Does the diamond have anything in it !! May be a light impression !! Illinois glass used a diamond with an I in it !! I think it later became Owens Illinois so maybe those initials, O or I !! They made a lot of commercial glassware like your jar !!
-
nothing inside the diamond...

I was thinking perfume. If you remember "solid" perfumes were very popular. They were scented, almost wax-like. You would swipe across them then put it at your temple, neck and wrist. As time went along your body warmth would release the oils. I even remember mom having one from Estee Lauder that made her feel like a queen when she put it on!
-
Yes, I remember those too !! Could be that as well !! The flowers on the top just made me think of the sachet` creams !!
-
thank you kc= It looked oddly familiar and now I know why.
Is it avon I wonder? evening mart
-
Good evening Sugarcube !! I don`t remember Avon having one like that but,, its something to check !! Most Avon is marked on the jar bottom !! Could be an early one though !!

Here is a few of Avon`s cream sachet` jars !! They are about the same size as yours !!
-
went thru the pages and found nothing exactly the same, I don't remember avon having a diamond marking but they sure could have.

Looks like a jar belonging to those "Brush/Mirror/Comb/Jar(s)" vanity sets from the 1940's-50's. I believe they were intended for anything that you wanted to put in them, from bobby pins to creams.
I can remember the drug store in our little town about this time of the year. They would have a table display of vanity sets and other gifts, just waiting for us kids who were desperate to find a Christmas present for Mom. :)

Ihis jar is only 2 in. tall,, bobby pins would be too big !!
