Title: Approximate date of this Italian trunk?

Hello everyone.  Any insight into the approximate age of this trunk would be greatly appreciated.  I live in DC and recently acquired it from an Italian diplomat who brought it over from Italy.  As you'll see, the screws on the hinges have been replaced but everything else appears to be original.  Thank you!

It appears to be a home made or locally made blanket chest/dowry chest or what ever they wanted to use it for !! There is little really to date it by !!  My guess would be mid 1800`s !!
