Title: Young Lady portrait pastel from 1929 by Vesztroczy Mano
Post by: Falcon55 on December 26, 2014, 09:28:22 AM
I just love this portrait I found in a local flea market. The seller told me it was made by Hungarian artist Mano Vesztroczy. Unfortunately the signature has been partly cut off. Maybe someone could identify it?

One picture is made with and the other without using Flash.

Thank you!

Jack

There are several entries for his work,,!!  Is the young lady`s name under the portrait ??

I am not an expert but to me it does not look like his work and the signature does not match the example I see on line, although it is close. Your work is very realistic where those that I see here are more impressionistic. Just an uneducated opinion.

Hello mart, yes - I strongly presume it is the name of the lady.

Hello frogpatch, thank you for your opinion and the link. It might be that it was a "customer Job" with the Portrait and so it is more "accurate" than the "free" paintings. I agree with you about the difference in the styles. But for my uneducated eyes the Quality is impeccable.

I really am surprised that someone just cut right through the middle of the signature...

Thanks, Jack

I wonder if he ever signed his work using "Emanuel" as a first name? Whatever is above the last name appears to begin with a stylized E. Regardless, it's a nice piece by a well practiced hand.

BTW:Looking at examples of Vesztroczy's work, I wouldn't mind finding some myself. :)

You would be surprised at how often works done on paper have been made smaller !! You have to remember that these were not always worth money,, the value was to the family !! Perhaps a relative of the young lady had a nicer frame and just cut it to fit !!
