Title: Napoleonic POW bone spinner gambling
Post by: wilhenri on January 09, 2015, 03:11:00 AM
I am posting this purely for interest I am not concerned with value but it is as I believe in the topic. Its 8 sided and is made of bone with a wood pin and actually spins very well. It is fairly crudely but well made as is demonstrated in the positioning of the 7 dots...Anyway any opinions are always welcome.  Oh car boot find just a few pence.

You have been on a roll finding neat stuff lately, Wilhenry !!   Does the dice part spin freely of is it a top that you spin with your fingers ??

DING DING!! Rauville great job!   Mart, on numbered ones it appears it goes up to the number 8.  So are there 7 and 8 dots on it?

I had totally forgotten about Vegetable Ivory!!!!  Because of the lack of supply and hence the restrictions on use of animal ivory....vegetable ivory was vastly used in the 1800's forward to make buttons, jewelry, games, beads, figurines.

I must say I am enjoying your treasures wilhenri!
