Yessss, much better pics, absolutely victorian sideboard/buffet. Looks like aesthetic movement, guesses 1880-1890 or so.
-
That's what I thought as well but my question is ( for my own knowledge) is this style typical of the NY area ?? The skirted bottom case is a little unusual !!
-
Hmmm, boy, i dunno. I think frogpatch collects victorian so maybe he will stop by. The secondary looks like poplar so this could have been built anywhere on east coast to the mid west like Mich. or Ohio. The dovetails on drawers are hand cut so if late 19th century is correct, this indicates custom made as most furniture here was built by machines after 1850 or so.
-
Mmm,, Frogpatch may be playing in the snow about now !! But he probably could give a better idea of value in that area !! Here it would likely bring about $600. with the dings, give or take a few dollars !! Only bad thing is it looks like it may not have the original beveled glass !! That hurts it !!
-
Yeah, in addition, it looks like some of the walnut veneer is damaged as well which would hurt value.
-
That is definitely an Eastlake Style Sideboard. I tried to take a photo from my old Victorian Furniture guide. It is hard to do a book selfie. My scanner is buried behind a lot of junk. Sorry for the blurred text.

Why do my pics flip when you click them?
-
They are straight for me !! Just like they should be !! How are these things selling where you are Frogpatch ??
-
If it were in perfect condition it would sell for between 800.00 and 1200.00, maybe even more. There are a lot of Victorian homes here so the demand is higher than in other regions. The owners of these homes are not effected by a weak economy. These are 2 to 5 million dollar homes in places like Spring Lake. I don't collect Victorian furniture like Ghopper, I just sold a lot of it along with golden oak.
-
That should give him/her a pretty good idea of value !!

Thanks for the info everyone. This piece really doesn't go with my house but at the
time I had to buy it. I paid $350 for it, probably about what it is worth. This is a great
website. I will read some other posts to get familiar with the info required on other
items. Again, thanks for the research, very interesting.

If you sell it ask $500. then deal from there !! I personally think it should bring that if the veneer chips are not too bad !!
Glad to help with it,,still think that skirted bottom is a bit unusual for Victorian era !! Although they were known for that !!
