Title: Can you identify this antique?
Post by: Allenkr22 on February 04, 2015, 10:49:56 PM
I say it's a Wolverine but many people are saying Danville beaver furnace company but the logos are very different.

Do you know what this is or what company?

The number on the back is 31400W.

Would love your thoughts and knowledge!

The company then we would know the source of the animal.  I think it's a wolverine.

I know what both animals look like.  In my opinion the animal on the plate looks nothing like a beaver.  Beavers don't have fur on their tails and the snout is too long also.  Imo it looks just like a Wolverine.

I say it's a Wolverine

It probably is a wolverine ...... but for sure its not a beaver.

Beavers are prey animals, wolverines are predators ...... and your pictured animal has the head, neck and sholders of a predator.

Note the difference in the ears, neck and slope of the head in these pictures.

Better pics !!  It all comes down to the ears which I can`t see well !!  Rounded ears=beaver,,,pointed ears=wolverine !!
These drawn pics just do not look right according to what we have here !! These suckers weigh 40 to 60 lbs !!

How big is this object ??  Round or oblong ??  Where did you find it ??

In the antique the animal has pointed ears.  Its about the size of a football very heavy metal or cast iron.  Beavers have no fur on tails.  That figure shows same fur markings as body.  I found at antique shop in lansing, mi.  The owner said his dad may have gotten it
In canada?  But wasnt sure the origins.
