Title: Bowls
Post by: amanda_in5 on February 10, 2015, 03:47:25 PM
Can anyone tell me what these are? I've had them for a couple years and have no clue what they are.  I think they might be alabaster or marble. I have two small bowls and one large bowl, all the same design. Any help would be appreciated. :). Thank you.

I don't think there are any marks on the bottom. Though I will double check.

There aren't any marks on the bottom but here is a photo of all three and the large bowl.

I can say I have never seen any as ornately designed around the edges.

Can you please describe what the decoration is?  Butterflies or flowers?

Also, the height of each (dimensions).

Thanks!

Okay, I tried to take a bit better photo's with a real camera.  It looks like fish, possibly dolphins on the bottom and leaves around the top.  Here are some additional pics.

Amanda search "antique alabaster pedestal compote" and you should come up with a few.  The dolphin was used very often in Victorian through mid 1900's in decorative furniture, silver and other materials.

The most $$$ were made in Italy but were marked as such.

Here's one on Ebay that isn't marked to give you one to watch
