Title: Antique Chairs found in Australia
Post by: Wulfe on February 18, 2015, 02:25:02 PM
Hello,

Can anybody tell me anything about these chairs. Haven't come across anything as ornate here in Australia.

They were picked out bush and the owners knew nothing about them. It's hard to tell what type of wood in its current state but guess could be mahogany.

Cheers
Brent

Something tells me they may not be as old as they look !!  Can you take a fairly close pic of the underside of the seat on one of them ?? If there are any screws or bolts get one of those too !!

They're made to look like 1860s mahogany or rosewood, but, as Mart said, they may be reproductions. If you see any Phillip's head screws on the underside they are likely post-1930.
