Title: Anyone know what these are?
Post by: frostynuggets on February 24, 2015, 07:51:22 PM
Bottom stamped "7228" on both dishes, with a small gold sticker that says:

Hand Painted
Andrea
Made in Japan

A lady brought these into our store the other day, not knowing what they were.  There are 2 "sets" of them..2 Square-ish, 2 "Round" ones.  I took a picture of the nicer "set".  The other has a lot of the gold paint around the rim worn down and look like they were used more.  We just have no idea what they are and so we took a shot in the dark and gave her $10 a pair.  I was hoping someone could shed some light onto the situation.

Can you please post pictures of the bottom of the items.

Are they hollow and do they have plugs?

They first appear to be heated dishes (that you would fill with hot water).

they are extremely shallow, probably only an inch and a half deep.

Please take a picture in natural light without a flash.

Can you be our eyes and tell us what you see on the label?

Oops...totally brain skipped over that.  My bad!

My first impression was from 1950's onward and was used as a centerpiece/fruit bowl.

Will keep searching...but still feel that is what it is.  Maybe someone else will chime in shortly.

How big are they ??  Didn`t look large enough for centerpiece bowls to me !!  Still remind me of grapefruit dishes !!  I remember the 50`s when serving half a grapefruit was "the" thing to do !! Usually served with a topping of brown sugar and put under the broiler till bubbly and melted !!

Andrea by Sadek!  Most of their items had 22K!

Maybe contacting the company might prove to uncover some answers!?!
