Title: German violin maker, any info?
Post by: bottlehunter212 on March 16, 2015, 08:43:49 PM
Hey everyone!
I play violin and recently got a new instrument!  ;D
I am fascinated by its history. I have done a little googling and have not found much on the maker, Louis Löwenthal / Louis Lowendall. It is a Berlin made 1902 model with full blocking.  Beautiful instrument, it is signed by Louis on the inside wood as well as on the label. Has a stamp with a crown and the words Berlin just under the neck. Not a family instrument, wish it was but I am hopefully making it into a family heirloom. Any info anyone has on these violins would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Interesting article on an appraisal that this individual dealt with on your maker!
