Title: Antique print Japan street scene
Post by: Skinny on April 26, 2015, 09:59:50 AM
I bought this old print at an antique store down the street for $2.50. I would guess that it is circa 1890's, and is a street scene of Tokyo Japan. In the bottom left it says B 75 UENO, TOKYO. I believe this is an address. Looks a print made from a photo. Has some color, perhaps some of the hues have faded away with time. I would like to know what this kind of print is called, what value it may have etc. Thanks!

This photo does have a filter. It brings out some more detail and color, but makes the print appear a bit more yellow than it really is.

It does look like a tinted postcard...but like Mart said hand colored prints were very popular.  Need a little more information.

What are the dimensions?

I won't be back home for a few days, so I have to guess on the dimentions and say about 8"" by 10". The writing in the bottom left seems to be a street address. I wish my phone took a little better pics.
