I got new information   ;D and that is, ... I don't think it is oak. Much too hard of a wood to be carving like that and the grain is too tight.

I was just guessing - the wood is very smooth but kind of heavy. 

Thanks cogar-what are your thoughts on it?

then the elephant makes sense too
