I found this old tile when clearing out the barn, could it be minton or delft?
Any info would be great
-
How big is the tile ?? Can we also see the back ??
-
I would also like to know the dimension and what the back is like.
Could be a tile, or a hot plate trivet, etc.... Can't tell from the picture.
-
Its roughly 6x6in the back has a large ribbed like affect.
-
The ribs would indicate that it would have been fixed to a wall or possibly a fireplace !! However many did use that type tile for a trivet if it came off of something or was an extra !!
-
This would have been perfect on a fireplace.
-
Sometimes found on back-splashes of old wash stands & kitchen counters too !
-
Looks like transferware so not hand painted,, doubt that it is Minton or Delft !!
-
Ive been doing a little research and ive come across this one described as
"Aesthetic Era | Aesthetic Movement Tile ~ Birds with Raspberries 1885.
-
Looks like you found it !! Many times these were used on fireplace fronts and would have had a different bird on each one !! More prevalent in the UK than the U.S but still used both places !!
