As most on the forum know I know my way around the kitchen! I love the odd and unusual kitchen utensils, serviceware, holloware, etc from early primitive to Victorian to current.
However, just saw this for sale and being touted as a jar/cup with spoon holder - but don't believe a spoon would sit in that little cup/lip item on the actual cup. Anyone else seen one like this before? Use? It isn't a spout to pour. Doesn't look big enough to hold a tea bag nor does it have a drain/strain area. The little area is cut so that the lid fits on it.
Seller states:
Silver Jam or Condiment Jar / Cup Unusual Lid & Spoon Holder
This is an old and very unusual jar / cup with an oversize lid that slides smoothly onto the slotted spoon receptacle. Unusual and quite elegant. The jar is decorated with indentations in a wavy pattern, which creates a nice energy for the piece.
It has no dents or nicks. Interior is pristine.
2 3/4" top opening diameter
2 1/2" bottom diameter
2" high without lid
2 3/4" with lid

Mmmm,, I don`t know KC!! I assume the bowl of the spoon would rest in that alcove ?? Most of the spoons that go with the jam jars are smaller !! I guess it could be but,, I do not think its very old !! Guess there is nothing on the bottom ?? If so they didn`t say !!
