Title: Need help to identify female bust
Post by: bunnyhatesfoofoo on August 23, 2015, 11:54:49 AM
This is a 16" marble bust. My boss inherited it from his mother who owned an antique store. I think its made from alabaster. It looks like its been hacked at a little on the sides and has been cracked in two at some point. We are located in Pittsburgh Pa. There is a metal rod holding the top piece to the bottom. Could anyone tell me anything about this item? I see no signatures on the piece so I don't know the maker or items origin. I'm not even sure of the material. Anything could help. Thanks in advance!

It looks to me more like plaster/ resin of some sort.   They made a lot of these bust at one point out of Alabaster.  There was an Italian sculpture that had his work well in demand.    Do you see any lines from a mold any place?
