American Walnut
Ca. 1865
Almost 8 feet tall
Key still works ....some lock hardware is missing
Value: $1500-$2000.
Would you agree?

Yes, in a retail setting but it might take awhile to sell.

It's a Shiwan figurine from China. Amazing craftsmanship for the money (about $60.00 U.S.) but not old. In fact, we bought it new last year.

Nice one Ghopper !! In todays market I think the lower end of that value !! Furniture is still not doing as well as it should be !!

Two reasons: To get a general idea of value and for insurance purposes.

Ahhhhh, well, for insurance i would go with the higher amount because if you wanted to buy one, you would need to hunt one down.

I would say $2500. for insurance purposes !! Chances are ,,depending on the insurance carrier, they may not cover full amount and replacement value would mean that you have an idea of what someone would sell a comparable bookcase for !! There is no way to know what someone would ask for a similar one so go a bit higher on value !!

Ditto! Insurance valuation is higher. Long time and fat chance finding one in such beautiful shape. :)

And special thanks to you, KC. I think this may have been in MsGhopper's family since just after the Civil War. We inherited it recently, along with the Meissen busts, the French tapestry, and some other items. Maybe I'll post some more items later on.
The patina on the bookcase is amazing and yes, irreplaceable. I don't want to think about finding another one.....
