Title: 19th Century Pitcher

My own guess is English, ca. 1850, but I do not know anything about maker and value.

Look up Gaudy Welsh, probably better value wise for a pitcher of this type.

My guess is that it's somewhere along that border. The pattern is odd.

What does the other side look like ?

The colors seem right for Gaudy Welsh, but not the pattern, which is very Japanese.

What does the scroll on the bottom signify? Also, I noticed that "21" is inscribed on the bottom rim, which may or may not be significant.

Having looked at both sides then maybe not Gaudy Welsh but I wouldn't rule out a small company across the border.

Best thing is to wait till I'm on the laptop later but your date is probably bang on.

Is that an impressed mark on the base to the left as we look or a smudge ?!

Try Crown Staffordshire !! They used a scroll symbol alone for a short time !!

I have not found a pic yet only reference to the scroll being used as a mark !! Try looking through the list here !! They are listed as a "banner" or scroll !! Would take me forever since my dial up loads pics so slowly !!

I have also searched and cannot find this. Majority of makers put their initials or name in the scroll/banner.

ALSO, please advise the size (heigth/width) of the pitcher.

7 5/16 inches to the tallest point on the handle.
8.25 inches from the spout to the back of the handle.

Post by: KC on October 06, 2015, 06:57:33 PM: From the size of this appears to be what is known as a creamer or some will say cream pitcher. Not a full size beverage pitcher which I believe others may be thinking it is.
