My friend bought a chair for $20. a while ago, and just had it reupholstered. She wanted more information about her purchase as far as style, age etc. I told her I would post for her.😊
-
Duh , forgot the photo. Senior moment!

Looks like half of a Victorian tete e tete set !! Would have been another just like it that faced that chair and placed together for genteel conversation by the ladies !! Some were made in one piece and some were two piece sets ocassionally having a place (table or an area made on the piece itself) to set a cup of tea !!
-
Thank you, mart. I assume $20 was a good price?
-
Iits a good price, but I'm thinking this is a reproduction piece.
-
Could be Ghopper !! But nice anyway !! Excellent price but would have been better to have both chairs !! I would try to find a little pie crust top tea table to use with it !! You can usually find them about the same price !! Doesn`t have to be old to look good !!
-
I told her she needs a tea set, lol. I will ask if there's any markings.
-
"That's a good idea.
I usually do better due diligence with other vintage items.
I have done nine with this chair." Quote my friend's text".
-
She's looking later for markings.

Have to differ on this one. A tete a tet had room for two people in many forms. But looks as if this one only has room for one booty! (Unless my eyes are deceiving me which lately they have!)
I think this likens more to a "corner chaise" or "lounge"! To have the ability to "lean" sideways as this one is made is typically some form of Victorian chaise or lounge! Reproductions have been around to say they can be abbreviated fainting couches to keep the popularity up while having a reduced size piece...but hot a fainting couch.
-
KC,, this is only half of a set,, would have had the same chair but reversed on the other side !! Two piece sets usually had a small tea table between them !! That the reason for arm being on the outside !! So you didn`t have to reach over the arm to pick up the cup !!
-
So, Mart, you are saying instead of a "tete a tet" it's just a "tet"? :) Could be...
Have also seen them referred to as a boudoir chair. Example (French of course...)

Or in USA often called a bustle chair (however you generally see them without an arm!) and a parlor chair!
-
That's right ;D !! Like Ghopper said,,It is probably a later repro !! Looks more 40ish to me !!
-
KC, beautiful set! Love that. I have to behave myself! :-) I will tell her to check the post. I want her to join. She has some great finds.
-
My friend found her chair.
-
Your friend's version is far more attractive.
I might even have to go later than 1940s on the date.
-
I agree. It's the pink crushed velvet.
-
Pink ?? Can`t tell the color in the pics !! I agree with Ghopper,, your friends is much nicer,,now !! This is a side-by-side,, most I have seen were facing each other !!
