I just picked this up today and I think it is a Japanese Shishi. The seller thought it was a griffin. It's not completely round so I think it is hand carved. Any ideas what kind of stone or age? All help would be appreciated. It is 1 1/4" in size.

Is that green from the flash or is that how it appears ?
-
That is the actual stone color. Interesting color mix in it.
-
soapstone possibly?
-
Too hard. I'm thinking maybe jasper?
-
Could be jasper or agate, cut and carved in the right manor to give the multicoloured facet
-
So, do you agree that it is a shishi? Does anyone have age estimates? I know stone is hard to date.
-
From the pictures the age doesn't look to be real old. Still has a shine/polish look to it on the face

I actually put a little bees wax on it to make it shine a little because I thought it looked a little dry. lol

lol, YEAH! feed the stone! sorry, i couldn't resist.

Cracked me up on that one Jacon4!
Wish I could help on this one...but not my area! Interesting though!
