Title: vintage / antique carved red oriental coral.
Post by: awhitetriangle on February 08, 2016, 03:54:27 AM
hi sorry i've been a bit quiet of late, just thought i'd share some bits i picked up from an estate sale this week. first up some carved red coral pieces. the first i believe is a buddha type head. it has a small hole the the top for mounting or threading. it measures about 3 cm tall and weighs just under 50g. i know these are at least 40-50 years old. any info greatly appreciated. i've seen similar whit some quite high price tags!

Beautiful pieces especially the cat!  Does the cat look like it could be just a stand alone item for display?  How tall is it.  I find a lot of jewelry in carved coral but not many statue like pieces.  Having to look through all of the jewelry to find 1 or 2 stand alone items.  Also, I don't find pieces that have had any paint added.  I assume this is probably a 24 KT gold paint on these pieces.  I  hope there is someone with knowledge in coral carvings who can help you.  Maybe take them to a jeweller to verify it is coral and go from there.
