The decoration is typical for Chinese bronze vessels of the Shang dynasty, but I cannot say if this is authentic. However the workmanship makes me doubt that it is. If you want to be sure, you have to ask an expert.

Thank you Mat, I also have a feeling my friend was taken for a ride by the dealer in Miami, now have to look for a reliable antique dealer.
