My friends and I were discussing the origin of the name "china" referring to china dishes.  I know this may sound like an ignorant question because it is, but what is the origin of this name of dishes? Why do we call it "china?

this site is a great intro to the origin of the porcelain we know as "china":

this should open to the home page, and the first 2 items listed are worth your time - then you may want to go on to identification of the old marks - beware - this can lead to serious "garage saleing" and antiques stores - not to mention "grandma's attic" - it's a wonderful hobby = best wishes, KB
