My grandfather was doing some family history when he told me of this vase on the windowsill, I know his ancestor picked it up around the Second Opium War (probably in China) as he was the stoker of a ship and I was wondering if there was any interesting history behind it; also if the symbol on the bottom is a maker's mark. If so the name of the maker would be interesting to know.

Think it's a Japanese vase from 1920.30 at the oldest :-\

A circle with a cross in it is Satsuma from Japan. Hard to tell from the photo if there is anything else inside the circle.
