Supposed to be dutch, about 1750, and another
-
The bottom one looks good and old but could you make some better pictures like the back and the damaged parts for the colour off the used clay ?
-
And ask for a little closer pic please !! Front and back !!
Womens work ?? Mmmm... !!
-
Wrong indeed !! Then who would you argue with ??
-
Well, as posted above, it seems that NO AMOUNT of insults will deter women who are seeking info about their dishes!
-
Oh !! My error !! Just assumed I was getting the harassment again !! :D
-
Where did she get these plates and what makes her think they are Dutch ??
-
I think it could be Dutch ( the bottom one ) but could also be a English Delftware plate . The top one is not looking Dutch to me :-\ . But the colour off the helps and a photo from the back side ;D
-
Well dang, how i got into this mess i'll never know, i tried to be as rude & crude as possible to this lady, all for naught. She sent pic of back of plates with stickers still attached, sigh
-
If the are from this dealer then the lady is better seeing a auction house soon :) Or she just has to send them to me as a Dutch helpful assistant in selling these plates ;D
-
can you give me your email i can forward? what are you saying? dishes are valuable?
-
I now realize what has happened, i am being punished for past bad behavior! BAD KARMA!
-
Perhaps a karmic smite would clear the decks? ;D ;D
-
If the stickers are right so not been put on as a proof off value :P the could be bringing some serious money here in the Netherlands . Just send me a private mail to get my mail
-
No, the stickers are right and have been attached for a long time, these plates (i don't know about the other pieces) were in Ruth Troiani antique shop in Conn at the time of her death and i guess her descendants auctioned them off after her death.

AH SO, ......... the "plot" is really beginning to thicken. :o :o
And ps, for what its worth, when I first looked at the 2nd picture .... "Gaudy Dutch" came to mind ....... but then the "horse n' rider" put a stop to that thinking. ;D
-
Those stickers mean nothing !! They are just the shop stickers saying what they think they are and the asking price !!
-
Don't really agree with you this time about these stickers . If put there by this dealer then yes it's what the think the are but done with a certain knowledge off antiques . So maybe looking to be a high just made price but not to bad for a retail value if the plates are what is said in the stickers . If it is a early piece off Dutch Delft like to one with the horse then the price would be a lot higher now then what the ticket price is .
And after heaving some more thinking and looking the second plate could be a very early Delfts plate so the value could be very very good and a lot higher then the older ticket price ;D
-
Mart, although as stated before, i know absolutely nothing about this object, it wasn't the price on those stickers that was valuable, it was her name, Ruth Troiani. Her and hubby were in the biz a long time and i think Ruth was a scholar in glass, she published a book in 1994.

her hubby died in 2005

-
Just meant that the sticker is not definitive !! Did she write the book on glass or pottery ?? Never heard of the book !!
-
Boy Mart, i dunno, not a clue. Since she's the author of book, i assume she wrote it. I am not the person needed in talking about pottery at all. I know it's a big deal to some but it just isn't my thing, at all. I thought maybe some in here were Delft people and could offer some info.
-
Interesting. I checked out the links, and there is no book by that author in ABE or Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. I wonder if it exists at all?
-
Traditional Delft, and what most people look for is a white glazed earthenware with the cobalt blue or what is known as Delft Blue, painted in metal oxides and glazed again. Very similar to Majolica,, it is a tin glazed pottery !! Although it was begun in the 1600`s around Amsterdam and the city of Delft,, it was also produced in England, Scotland, France, Italy, and late 1700`s and 1800`s was also produced in China and Japan. The Chinese and Japanese then exported it back to Europe !! You can see why some if unmarked are often thought to be the traditional Dutch Delft who used many similar Chinese and Japanese patterns on their early pottery !! Later they did go back to the traditional Dutch scenes !! It can get confusing !!
-
It can get confusing !!
Hell Yeah it can, which is why i asked if there were any Delft people in here!
-
I wonder if it exists at all?
Yes it does, in libraries, i am guessing it wasn't a best seller!

The bottom one could be Bristol

It looks like libraries only! I'd love to order a copy, but that seems to be impossible.

Yeah, that happens A LOT with limited edition decorative art type books. So unless it's like a Nutting furniture Treasury, single print scholarly type books get scarce after a few years and usually hideously expensive if available at all.
Which is why i always pay attention if a collectors library is offered at auction, you can often get obscure books of a particular interest that way.

I wish I could see the finish better. If they were as old as they are touted to be there would definitely be a "time" crazing on them.
Am I seeing "grey" coloring where the plate is chipped?
If they were mine and I thought they were legitimate, I would send the pics to Christies to see if they would be interested! That will give you a clue!
-
I saw no crazing on that one anywhere, KC !!
