Can somebody plz tell me who made this?
It's only 7" high.
Thank-you in advance!!
-
I don't know the mark, but that's one beautiful pitcher!
-
ikr??!!
I don't even know if I got the mark facing the correct way.
lol
-
What's the impressed word ?
The mark is a Crown, laurel wreath, letter P
i think
-
What's the impressed word ?
It doesn't have one.
-
Flip it upside down !! Its scalloped along the edge not pointed like a crown !! Think nosegay !! The protrusion at the "now" top is what a Victorian lady would hold in her hand !! What I do not get is the greenery where flowers normally are !!
-
Definitely not a mark I have seen before. Like the pitcher!
-
It's a crown or coronet, Mart.
Similar to this in design

There are definitely some impressed marks on the base
-
I agree. The crown or coronet are common in pottery marks. Don't believe I have ever seen a nosegay/tussie mussie as a porcelain mark.
-
So I finally stumped the band?
lol

You have Gorilla Glue, right?
-
Would you just humor an old woman and flip that pic upside down ?? I have looked through crown marks for three days and have found nothing even remotely similar to this !!
Yes,, I know Ipcress,, we Americans are just not as familiar with crowns as you are,, But I just do not see a crown !! Looks more like scallops or petals at the top !!

I'll thank you not to joke about such things!

Don`t worry Raven31557,, it will fit in a smaller box that way !!

Am I seeing correctly that the mark is blue?
Is the inside entire glazed? Does it feel heavy for it's size?
-
Here is a different view of the "mark".
But the orientation of the "mark" in the 1st post is correct.
It is listed as a "crown & circle or oval crown and shield" on Page 111 in Kovels' Dictionary of Marks.
To wit:
Ludwig Wessel
Bonn, Rhineland, Germany (W. Germany)
Porcelain
ca 1887 - 1907 (1885 - present)
(Wessel Ceramics Works AG)

Well done! A point for Cogar.
-
LOL !! Thanks Cogar,,!! But do these people that design the marks know what a crown is supposed to look like ?? Yes,, perhaps it is because I am an American and a Texan that my notion of a crown mark is much different !! Last pic looks perfectly right to me !!

The mark is forest green.
Yes, it's glazed on the inside, too.
Not terribly heavy. I'd say about 2 pounds.

Makes much more sense when seeing a good stamp with the initials !!
-
ah HA!!
tyvm!
Now I can peruse Whosie Wessel's stuff to see if I can find a match.
:D
-
Brilliant, Cogar !
So the P underneath stands for Poppelsdorf.
