This cup is in excellent cond.
3.5"H x 3" diameter
The mark is unreadable.
-
OK !! I am looking at it upside down but looks like the number 39 !! Don`t even know how to classify this one !! Is there a saucer with it ?? If so can we see the mark on it ??
-
Nope. No saucer.
-
I need to revisit this one.
I'm racking my brain trying to find anything even remotely similar.
Any tips on how to search for this cup, like a term to use?
-
Try "Free form cup and handle with vertical gold band and flower" There are no words to honestly describe this cup !! :D
-
Thanks!
I tried that, and then all variations of that, and the closest I got to anything even remotely similar was searching for
"vintage Free form cup".
I guess it's one-of-a-kind and belongs in a museum.
hahaha
I'll mark it $75.00 and see if that flies.
-
Good Luck !!

I believe you would call it a china tea cup with applied flower/pansy and gold leaf. Can't tell if it is a regular size teacup or a demitasse cup.
-
It's not a demitasse cup.
It holds almost 8 fl.oz.
-
It holds almost 8 fl.oz.
At 8 fl.oz capacity ....... me thinks it might be a small handled vase, pitcher or creamer. ???
-
English tea cups are 6oz - 8oz
US Cups range from 6oz - 10oz
Most Asian countries 4oz - 6oz
-
Oh my, ......... I tried. :-[ :-[ :-[
-
I don't think it's a pitcher or creamer.
There's no pouring lip.
-
I know cogar! It does sound like alot for a tea cup doesn't it.
My dear hubby has "1 cup" of coffee a day. However, he doesn't tell that his cup holds 16 ounces!
-
Here is my last guess ...... and that is it could be an RS Prussia piece, ..... like so:
RS Prussia Porcelain Mustard Jar

Hmmm...most shaving mugs had the strainer built inside of them or they were built scuttle style. BUT would be truly unusual to have feet! Because of the chance of tipping/turning over would be so great you typically see a round/square solid base.
However, after WWII they made all kinds of novel items to sell, sell, sell.
The one below is a raised flower shaving mug...but solid base

I'll have to do more research on the lady's shaving mug, like rauville said.
That seems to be the closest example to what I have.
My piece doesn't have a lid like the RS Prussia piece, but that doesn't mean it never had one when new.
Thanks, everybody!!

I zoomed in on the maker's mark on the bottom.
It's unreadable, but I thought perhaps somebody might recognize the general shape of it.
-
The bottom one looks like a squirrel! :)
-
Still looks like 39 to me !!
-
The bottom one looks like a squirrel! :)
LOL!
I was thinking rooster.
-
Go back to page 1 and look at the number 3 pic !! Don`t look at the cup itself,,look at the pic you posted !! Blind as I am I can see the numbers !! Want me to send you a pair of my cheaters ?? :)
-
Oh Mart...you made me laugh harder! Yes it's a 39 on the front page but when she blows it up it looks like a squirrel holding a nut!
-
LOL !! I didn`t enlarge it to see !!
