Title: Signature markings on old stool-table

Any idea on this signature .....not sure if stool or little table.   Any help is appreciatwd

Are the letters painted on, carved or what ??  What is the town name ??   It is in South Carolina isn`t it ??   Its likely the owners name since it is a manufactured table !!  It is not uncommon to find items marked by the owner  !! 
Perhaps part of this family !!

   Stone Ness
   Ashur S. ?

Was the tag on there and you ripped it off or was it already that way?

Ha !!  Leave it to Ipcress ~~  So its a place,,not a name ??  Is that a hinge of some sort I see in the second pic ??
