This is a large (44" width, 30" length, 30" high) walnut turtle top center table. The decorations, consisting of flattened, abstracted acanthus leaves along with 16 inset burl panels, seem to conform to the aesthetic movement, and I'm giving it a date of ca. 1885. Original finish and yellow/beige marble with blue striations, virtually perfect condition. I think it was probably made in Ohio or Michigan, but there are no marks.
Any ideas on value?

have no electricity,, battery power pic is too dim to see !! Will look when power is fixed !!
-
lol, the old woman is in the dark!
On the east coast, $800-$1200, you would probably do better than that in New Orleans.
-
Thanks. I was thinking around $1K.

Yes !! The old woman was in the dark !! But I lit my oil lamps and that was about 3 am !! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an electrician here ?? Darned hard !! I was on the phone till noon !! Got one to come out early but he bailed !! Couldn`t find a breaker that matched so had to replace the whole thing which had to be rewired !! Still more to do in the morning !! Have been outside all day in this misty rain,,with wet feet !! Was not a good day !! Finally got most of it done about 6:30 this evening !! At least I can sleep warm tonight !! Supposed to be down to 25 degrees in the morning !!
Now to the table,, $1000. to $1200 !! Its a nice one wonder if the marble was cut like that as a guard for those cabriole legs ?? Would prevent a lot of dings and scratches !!

A karma point to Mart for her trials and tribulations.
Thanks again for the input re: value. It seems like we're all more or less agreed. ;)

If I was you I would research this a little more.
Try looking at Victorian Center Table, Victorian Marble Top Center Table, Victorian Turtle Top Center Table...and then variations to include x stretcher, etc. I think your piece could be worth a bit more than what anyone is guesstimating above.

Ha! You may be right, KC. $1K makes me plenty happy, though, because we got a great deal on it.

All three passed with no bids !! I looked at five on other sites and prices were from $499. to $1200. !! One sold for $504. and another for $995. !! Those prices at 1stdibs are rediculous !!

Yeah, almost as important as where to buy is, where to sell. And these days with old furniture way down generally in the market, it's really important to consider carefully where to sell antique furniture, particularly in the middle market which is 80% of total sales.

I think this table's a keeper, so no plans to sell. Hopefully, when it finally sells it will literally be over my dead body. Perhaps by then the market will recover... :o

Thats a nice chunk of marble Ghopper,, I would keep it too !!

That really is a excellent example of its' kind. (I have an aesthetic design table with a piece of North African fossil marble that I've always enjoyed.)

Thanks for the kind words! We got lucky with this one.
