i have managed to speak with the artist who created it.
I carved this whilst working in China in 1997 for Minster Giftware and it sold for a couple of years. It was part of a range of sculptures that was mostly for restaurants
its Groucho Marx, he was originally sold with glasses and it is made of resin but it's then has a coating of amber to make it look like it's carved from wood
Shame im missing his glasses but atleast i know his history now:)

Its always best to go right to the artist when possible !! Did he give you an idea of value on the secondary market !! My guess would be between $500. and $800. since I saw no others for sale !!
