This is a Depression glass dish.
I know the pattern name is cameo/ballerina.
It's 3"H x 5" Diameter
More than likely Anchor Hocking.
There are no markings.
but is it a candy dish?
a footed bowl for <something> in particular?
What would you call this?
-
Sherbet dish !!

It's been awhile, but I used to call that size piece a "mayonnaise".

looks like uranium glass also called vaseline glass. you need a black light to check it, it should glow like chernobyl! produced from the 1840's very popular mid to late 19th c. production decreased in the cold war period due to the tightening of restrictions regarding uranium. i've just purchased two dressing table sets, i'll post pics later...

I have many tiny bowls. Back when the movie theaters were 5 cents, they gave out depression glass. My husband's grandmother had a lot of it.

A Mayonnaise Comport??

lol
Thank-you, everybody!!!
I'll get myself a black light light bulb next time I'm out.

I'm going to call it a sherbet glass at the Estate sale.

Good Idea !!

Raven,
I would also say depression glass not Vaseline glass. This is a great article about the difference between the Vaseline and Depression.

Right !! There are pieces of vaseline glass that look similar but this is not one of them !! Sorry, awhitetriangle but this is just depression glass !!
-
I totally agree that it is not vaseline glass from the looks of it.
Without any thing to relate it to my first impression was a compote dish as well.
The way to tell if glassware is vaseline glass (made with uranium) is to put it under a "black light". It will shine the beautiful but eerie alien green glow!

It's not Vaseline glass.
I bought a black light light bulb yesterday and tested several of my bowls and plates.
No dice.
