Good morning,
I am having trouble identifying these baskets.
There is no mark and I cannot find any like them online.
Your expertise will be much obliged.

Not a Clue! but i know they are very collectible and can be quite valuable. Hopefully a basket person will stumble by and offer some comment.

Baskets are a tough subject !! Most have no defined style and can be unique to a culture, an area, even within an area a basket weaver can develop a unique style of basket !!
Are you in the U.S. ?? What is the location, how did you get these baskets !! If purchased did you ask the previous owner about them ?? Can you take a close up picture of one and a pic of the bottom ??

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, there's a basket person now! Although i know nothing about baskets, i know that some can get very pricey, in 2004, a Shaker basket sold for 63k. I tried to find a photo of it to see what a $63,000.00 basket looks like but couldn't find one, here is an article about it though.

Like Mart said; we are going to need more information. Are they a nesting set? Is that metal trim / banding on the outside? If I were to guess, I would think perhaps Oriental??
Another high priced basket at auction, $115,000:

Thank you for your help with this.
I am in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The seller did mention they were nesting baskets and they have the metal banding.
I will upload additional photos later today.
-
Can you please post a picture of the bottoms of the baskets? Also a view looking down/in the large one? A closer pic of the edge/side along the base/bottom of the basket?

Here are the additional photos as requested.

Looks like maybe willow basket with twine wrapped rim and metal staves !! Could be something other than willow but thats what it looks like to me !! Mmm,, !!
Can you tell what is wrapped around the top rim !! Looks too consistent to be a natural material !! Or if it is it was commercially made !! Maybe a twisted jute!!
-
That is what I was thinking as well Mart. However, there are some items that just require a hands-on inspection and this may be one of them.
-
I agree KC !! Its a simple weave and not very tight so I do not think a very expensive set !! My guess would be from an import shop somewhere !! They are just storage baskets not working baskets !! Most of the high priced baskets are not made as nesting sets !! They are made with a specific use in mind !!

115K for a basket! JESUS!
In Charleston SC in old town at the open air market, ladies still weave baskets, kinda neat watching them weave them. They make it look so simple to do as they sit and chat to each other while weaving but i am guessing it's not that easy to do.
-
Thank you all for your help.
Mart, I do not know what is wrapped around the rim. Most of the wrap seems to be hardened with something though.
Since I don't have a 115k basket, I will price these accordingly.
Thanks again!

Check with some of the basket weaving forums,, I am no expert on baskets !! Because that is my feeling does not mean I am right !! May I ask what you paid for these baskets ??
-
I'll do that Mart.
It was a lot so about 10 a piece.
-
You should do well at that price !! If you find out anything let us know !! Good luck with the sale !!
