My mother think this object is Swedish and I say it's Amish. This is from my grandfather. I think I see writing. What are your thoughts?

Candy dish maybe? I just don't think so. Folk art?

What type (species) of bird is the top motif suppose to represent?
I can't see the head very well.

Possibly a quail or a "ring-neck" pheasant.

What is it made of ?? Wood,, cast iron,, ceramic ??

It looks like numbers and some letters on the bottom.

Am I seeing correctly that the top of the bird (in the curve) that the paint is worn? Kind of reminds me of a match holder and strike.
