found this old trunk and was wondering if anyone could give some info on it?
-
Can you take a closer pic of that label ?? Its an old steamer trunk which many used for travel 19th and 20th century !! If its a wood trunk and not covered with something should bring about $150. give or take a few dollars !! Can`t tell what the condition is from these pics but looks pretty good from what I can see !! Late 1800`s and early 1900`s many more affluent people took what was called the Grand Tour and would visit Europe for months !! This trunk is what all necessities were carried in except clothing and personal items !! Had different trunks for that !! It was not unusual for them to have had more than one of these !!

I believe Mart nailed it on the timeline. If you look at the timeline history of American Railway Express it was developed by the US Govt in WWI and changed to REA in 1929.

AND if you look at the ARE company in PA...

Can you post pics of the insides? Contents? More information on trunk history? Can you please tell me what it says under the name "American Railway Express" on the label? Is it "Incorporated"?
