My mother in law loved these chairs. Can you tell me are they French Provincial? She has them to go to someone in the family, but they don't want them. We don't know what to do.
-
I will tell him to take a picture of the bottom.
-
The bottom.
-
French Provincial works. Not antique though; they look like 1960s or so. Not worth alot.
-
Thanks, I knew it. Just needed to prove to my husband before he would part with them. His brother was all for it me and too! I don't have any room. Let someone else who has a home for them take them for free!🤣😂
-
Thats right !! They made tons of this French inspired stuff !!

FRENCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Referred to as a Harp Chair - Rococo Style of King Louis XV and beginning of Louis XVI.
Depending on the construction, they could be older! These had a resurgence in 1940's.
They were made in this style, some more ornate and less ornate, during Louis XV. Just search French Rococo Harp Chair and you will see quite a few. Here's some:

Might think these were older except for the upholstery tack trim rather than braid and unfinished back !!
-
Yep, I'll stick with 1960s.
-
Now I'm in a quandary. My husband is making his brother get them back! 😂😂 until I'm sure. He's swears they are from the at least the 50s. He and his brother are in a debate. He says the back is hand sewn that you can't see from these photos. I will blow them up.
-
With iPhone I can't make adjustments to this photo because it was shared, darn.
-
Wouldn`t be hand sewn even if 1930`s !! Sewing machines have been around a while !! If some part was hand sewn might have been a repair or the applique on the back !! But that would be rare !!
-
Woven ribbon and tacks.

You mean something like these ??
Try to get pics !!
-
As for the date of the chairs...it would only be a guess without a hands-on. Only you can determine the approximate age when you get a look close up.
They are still being made in France, but they definitely look newer.
Any idea how long she had it? History of it? Where she got them?
-
No my husband remembers them as a child.
-
About how many years ago was that ?? Mid century would have been 67 years ago !!
-
Lol, he's only 61. His mom is 91.
-
LOL !! He is just a youngster !! So we are still back to about 1940 to 1960`s !! Does anyone in the family remember when she got them ??
