I bought this mirror last year and was looking at it today. It has stamped on the back: Hulluch Apr. '40. The only company I could find with that name was one in France that appears to be a design company. Any ideas? Thanks.
-
Can you please post a picture of the stamp on the back? Thanks!
-
It's hard to see, but I tried to enhance it best I could.
-
Wow. Lots of terrible war activity in Hulluch, especially during WWI.
The style seems consistent with a 1940 date. It was probably originally gold. Not alot of value, unfortunately.
-
Yes, I knew about the war activity and found a design house in France with that name. The design house looked contemporary, so did not think it would be associated with the mirror. I only paid $10 for it and I had the perfect spot for it, so no great loss. Thanks as always.

You have a nack for finding great deals Kathy. Can you image what you would pay for a mirror of that weight any quality today?

As PeLady said it was a good deal !! These mirrors were made by many companies !! Since the mirror is not beveled the 40`s date would be about right !!
-
You got a great deal on a classy mirror.
I also believe it was gold in color at one time (as was the popular coloring at the 1940's).
Does it look as it it was "painted over" or the gilding was removed?
-
You sure it's Hulluch and not Hubbuch ?
-
It was painted white with a black glaze of all things. I scrapped off some paint and all I see is bare wood, so not sure if it was ever gold, etc. It could be Hubbuch instead of Hulloch, the stamp is really faded as it goes up. Looking at it with a flashlight, it looks like I see a shadow of a curve on what I thought was an L, so could be "B's". It is in all caps, so hard to tell for sure.

You are so correct! You could not even buy a cheap plastic mirror for that in today's world, much less a good quality heavy mirror. It was at a local vintage shop and since I did not have to have the mirror, I just waited until she put it on clearance.

I saw those earlier. The gold mirror in the pic reminds me of the one I have simply because I noticed it had 4 ornate sections on the mirror. The one I have also has them in the same places. The back of my mirror only has Hulluch or Hubbuch, but does not have glass company like the Hubbuch logo has, so not sure.

The back of your mirror says Hu??uch Apr 40.
That mirror says Hubbuch Dec 43
It's too much of a coincidence, surely ?

Oh, I did not read before about the mirror on the website you sent, but I see that now. Has to be Hubbuch. Thank you bunches.
