Title: Weekend Reflections
Post by: Rauville on September 10, 2017, 09:34:20 AM
The Wife and I attended what will probably be the only auction we will go to this year. It was a Doctor's estate with an unbelievable amount of good items. Of course, the buyers were there as well.
After several hours we left with our meager purchases, which were a Mettlach stein, a huge Rookwood vase, and a large original painting. Not much to show for a day's effort...until we returned home.
The neatest part of the day appeared when I went out to feed the chickens. I glanced out the barn door, and here was a little mother hen with her brood of 10 freshly hatched babies. Truly, the end to a perfect day! :)

One of life's precious moments!!!

I love looking out watching all of my hummingbirds, lizards, etc.  The ahhhh moments!

Although you didn't get many items...it made for a day of entertainment!

"a Mettlach stein, a huge Rookwood vase, and a large original painting."

Hardly a meager showing!

Waiting to see that Rookwood vase !!

Nothing special, a production vase dated 1920. Measures 12+" high, 23" circumference.

All in all, a very interesting auction, with examples of unique and unusual items that this part of the country doesn't see. (For instance; a matched pair of walnut George III silverware floor cabinets with lift-top knife urns on the top. Selling price was 575.00 each.)

Considering that a Rookwood vase of any kind is pretty much non-existant here,, I would take it too !!

Baby chicks always give good advice on purchasing antiques. Yes really. If you listen verrrrry closely, they tell you what kind of purchases to make! It's true! Listen t them! They keep saying "Cheap! Cheap!"
