Gerspee,
I'm practiced at the art of deduction!
First, I took the words that I thought I recognized: Serfaus Ole Fiss Tal. Serfaus is a municipality in the district of Landeck in the Austrian state of Tyrol. And, just to let you know there are 23 languages used there - argh. So, I translated "Ole" and "Tal" from German to English. I ended up with: Serfaus Old Fiss Valley...just lucky I thought.
Well Fiss just happens to be next to Serfaus. Actually, Serfaus is well known as part of the ski-region "Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis", which was formed when Serfaus teamed up with the two nearby municipalities of Fiss and Ladis in 1999. Have a headache yet?
So, then I went up a line where I could read the word, "Alpe". Then I thought I was seeing perhaps, Comperdell Alpe. So, I googled it. There just happens to be a Komperdell Alpe in Serfaus. So, I thought that can't be just coincidence....but, what about the "C" vs "K". It appears that in Germanic languages sometimes the two are interchanged.
In summary, I think your nice oil painting is Austrian. And the tag reads: Comperdell Alpe/Serfaus Ole Fiss Et, OR Komperdell Alpe/Serfaus Old Fiss Valley.
If you can get a better picture of the signature (maybe in outdoor light), we could all take a stab at it.

Well done!!
Wow, SophieMarie, I'm impressed! 3 (now 4) total karma points for you! In so few posts!
You should go over to antiquerers.com. It's a busy forum, and Gerspee posted this painting over there as well:

You'll smoke 'em with your deductive powers!!

Thank you Ghopper!
I'm really glad to have been connected to this forum....through Mart. I am learning something new every day!
And, now another forum from you...it is appreciated.

Yeah, Jacon turned me on to it in July, and it's lots of fun. Very active, and there are people there who really know their stuff. Kind of like you, Mart, KC, Jacon, Rauville, Ipcress, and all of the big brains around here. Sorry if I left anyone out.... ;)

Thanks for all the info about the location off the chalet and very useful . But the artists name would be very nice to know so new maybe better to read pictures ?
-
Another point from me,, I couldn`t read enough of it to make sense !!
-
I know that its very difficult to make something off it . I count 8 characters and the first letter looks like a S or maybe G or F ? So been looking already to 8 letter names without any luck :P

Just a small correction regarding the inscription on the back, it is not "Ole Fiss valley", but "Ob. Inntal" (Oberinntal), which is the upper Inn valley, the place where Serfaus is located. The next lines read "Original Sept. 1942 / Urlaub! , which translates to "original Sept. 1942 / holidays!" So this is a souvenir someone bought back from his holidays there.
I also cannot read the signature, my best guess would be "Zimmer"...

There is a painter from that area called "Franz Wimmer", (1908 - 1967), maybe he could be a candidate, as his painting style is similar. https://www.meinbezirk.at/osttirol/lokales/die-unholden-lienzer-dolomiten-m7459892,1144470.html
-
Some more paintings of him: http://www.osttirol-heute.at/heute/kultur/24545-art-osttirol-zeigt-werke-von-franz-wimmer

Sure could be, Mat !! Similar style and subject matter !! Signature is a bit different but it is not unusual for it to evolve over time !! Timeline is right !!
-
Time could be right but the way the brush is handled is different en the Wimmer paintings are more detailed and painted different . The signing is not close only a bit the way the letters are written . So I think the artist is not this Wimmer but still somebody else :)

Can I see the entire back, please, Gerspee ?
The label is weird. No p in Comperdell, mixture of English and German.
-
Gerspee,
I saw Giovanni in the signature, but have not found information on artist yet....
It's a difficult one!
-
Ipcress, there is no mixture of languages, it is all German...
-
Always nice if's the answer is a long way and keeps you motivated 8) But here's the backside complete as asked
-
Ipcress, there is no mixture of languages, it is all German...
Mat, what’s the first word ?
-
Comerdell, a misspelling, but the C is fine, you can find a lot of examples of this variant of the name...
